Day two had breakfast with poor Claire. Her first words to me were" I've just had my ass handed to me". Day two was a hoot, and we played tag most of the day.

I remember that first day. When I did RAPSody last year, I rode like a maniac, and then missed the boat to Vashon, and had my legs cramp up. Then I rode like a maniac, fearing (like you) that I had burnt up all my reserves in the first part of the ride. But unlike you, I missed the damn boat. More sitting around, I think for 45 minutes, more legs cramping up. By the time I finally made it to the first food stop, most of the morning was gone, and I was a couple hours behind the bulk of the riders.I'm glad you were swifter, and managed to do better with the ferry schedule. It was enough for me to consider in the future, riding to the ride (from our house to the Fauntleroy ferry dock) and skipping the traverse of Vashon. The miles would be the same - maybe even more - but I wouldn't have to worry about the timing so much. Downside - I'd either have to get someone to pick me up, or snag a ride with someone for the return.

I really hear you about the ferry/Vashon thing.
