Here’s a recipe for a squishy dough to play with. We like it because you can tailor the color combinations to the kids’ whims-du-jour.
Fun dough — http://www.jimcarson.com
1 C(250 ml)water
1 C(250 ml)flour
2 t(10 ml)cream of tartar
1 T(15 ml)vegetable oil
1/2 C(125 ml)salt
* drops of food coloring or non-toxic paint
  1. Dissolve coloring in water.
  2. Mix all ingredients in a saucepan. Place on low heat, stirring constantly until rubbery. Dough will leave sides of pan
  3. Cool and knead for a few minutes.
  4. Store in an airtight container.

  1. My Mom used to make this for us!!! I hated it because I wanted REAL Play Dough not homemade. God, I’m so glad I didn’t have to raise me.

    :-) i’m surprised the kids aren’t demanding customized colors. i probably ought to learn my additive color charts just so i can come up with the fairy-friendly shades of pink and purple.

    For coloring, we use washable hand paint (it doesn’t stain like food coloring does).
